Two Spoiled Rotten Collies Live Here
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Monterey Pacific Publishing Co. (01 March, 2000)
Authors: Collie and Beverly J. Hess
Average review score:

How heartwarming!
I bought this book because I love collies and I loved the picture on the cover. How much more "spoiled" could two dogs be than swinging on the swing with their owner? Although I don't know why, I was delightfully surprised to find that this book is so funny and so sad at the same time. Each new story brings the tears, either from the antics of one of the authors animals, or sad tears from the tragedies they've suffered. This book will become one of your favorites that you will read again and again. I keep the book on my bedside table and pick it up to re-read favorites nearly every night. When is this author going to write another book? I can't wait. Thank you Beverly J. Hess!!

Great even if your not a pet lover!
I enjoyed very much reading about two spoiled collies. I have never been a dog lover; but the book makes you think "hey maybe I'm missing something". The book makes you laugh out loud! and makes you have second thoughts about dogs. . . .

Excellent Book!
Like everybody who has read this book, I found myself laughing and crying at the trysts these pets have had. It truly is a wonderful book, and thoroughly well written. It is a must have for any animal lover, or anybody who loves a good read.

The Border Collie: An Owner's Guide To A Happy Healthy Pet
Published in Hardcover by Howell Book House (November, 1996)
Author: Mary R. Burch

This Book is Great
I first read this book when I checked it out of the library and I totaly loved it. I had checked books out before about other breeds, to find out which one would be the best for me, and all of the other books were so full of things that didn't understand that it made it hard to choose. But when I read this book, not only did I find out that the Boder Collie was the right dog for me, but I also was able to understand everyting the author was talking about. So if you're looking for a book that is easy to understnad and yet informative as well I would recomend this book, it's great!

A really great border collie book
I found this book at my local library and, a big fan of border collies, was eager to check it out. I was pleased by the full-colored photos instead of black and white ones. The book provides true and top notch information, and the author reflects on her own experiences with border collies several times. There are chapters on feeding, grooming, training, behavior, and equipment. If you need a border collie book, get this one. It's the best one I've ever seen.

The Christmas Collie

Authors: Ted Paul and Mary Kummer

This is a beautiful story that will tug at the heart strings
The Christmas Collie is a beautiful story of a child and his dog as they grow together. It is a story of friendship, love, and sharing through the stages of life.

The art work in this book pulls a child into its story. It is so realistic that a child actually wants to be a part of pictures that impart so much feeling between a boy and his beautiful Collie dog. This is an excellent story to be used in a classroom sitting if the reader can control the tears.

A beautiful, nostalgic family Christmas book.
This nostalgic story of the bond between a boy and his dog is a sensitive look at those things that make beautiful memories and strong family traditions. THE CHRISTMAS COLLIE will bring tears of joy to all readers, young and old.

THE CHRISTMAS COLLIE should be read over and over again to savor the deep feelings that it brings to the heart and soul. SHARE IT WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!!!

Invaluable reference
It took me close to 3 years to track down this book. I finally got it, read it and by the way, enjoyed it. It contains basics (to me anyway) about colour inheritance, structure, history, health, and a little on grooming and showing. This book will stay in my kennel's bookshelf for a long time. (And no, I'm not a year old.)

A collie owners handbook.
This is a wonderful and informative book. It is chock full of pictures of collies as early as the first known collie in the USA right through some of the more recent and important collies we know today. You will find advice on how to pick a collie puppy, and how to get it registered with AKC. There is information about common collie health problems as well as advice on how to train your collie. It really is the collie owners handbook.

The Collie: A Veterinary Reference for the Professional Breeder
Published in Hardcover by Biotechnical Veterinary (January, 1984)
Author: Sharon L. Vanderlip D.V.M.
Average review score:

Essential reading for the collie breeder
Dr. Vanderlip's book is just what the collie fancy needs - a scientifically sound book that covers the genetics of color, coat and most importantly, disease inheritance in the collie. She has done the collie breed a service by discussing collie-specific conditions in one reader-friendly reference. I'm looking forward to the revised edition!

A Must Have for the serious Collie fancier
This excellent book, written by a world renowned collie breeder and canine reproductive specialist, is a treat from start to finish. Dr. Vanderlip knows from where she speaks, having bred International Collie Champions and exported Collies worldwide. The section on color inheritance is the best in print today. The section on medical and genetic problems is very well done with photos to illustrate the text. The multi-page bibliography is one of the finest I`ve ever seen, opening up a whole new reference to enable the reader to research areas of interest further. The depth of this book shouldn`t be underestimated and having a copy on the shelf to refer to is a pleasure and a delight. This is the only veterinary reference book on Collies that I know of.

Duffy, Adventures of a Collie
Published in Hardcover by Thomas t Beeler (August, 2002)
Author: Irving Townsend
Average review score:

A Captivating Novel!
From the moment the Collie sets out on his adventure, the book is gripping and suspenseful. It is along the lines of the books about the collie Lad by Albert Payson Terhune. It is captivating right up until the very end! A book hard to put down once you have started to read it. Animals lovers will not want to miss this one.

A delightful book
This book is recommended very highly. The writer clearly knows collies, knows a variety of types of people and can write very well. Duffy is a three year old collie who gets separated from his home. Before he is able to return he meets a variety of people, some well-meaning some not, some who know dogs some not, but many of whom end up trying to sell or give him to someone else. He also affects two people whom he meets enough for them to arrange separate efforts to break into a shelter to rescue him when his time is almost up. The concentration is on Duffy. There is no attempt to anthropomorphize or be sentimental. However, one will find oneself at times smiling pleasantly and at other times with eyes starting to get wet. The final third of the book is especially well done. While an older child might enjoy the story, the writing style is definitely oriented toward the adult reader (not because of sex, violence or offensive language but because of sophistication of style). This book leaves one with a very positive feeling, regretting only that we will not see more such stories from this author. Unfortunately he died in 1981. We can thank the publisher for now making his last effort available to the reading public.

Molly Collie : Waggy Tales Series
Published in Hardcover by Reader's Digest (January, 1999)
Authors: Stewart Cowley and Sonia Canals

Woof! Woof!
This is a wonderful book for your young reader. I bought this book for my daughter because the collie and her share the same name. Much to my delight I was glad I ordered it for her, it is absolutely adorable. Molly's job is learning how to round animals up in a herd. "She has the ducks march in a row, but snail can't march -- he's way too slow." The story (words) are easy for anyone to read and say .

The colors in this book are bright and bold. The pages are easy to turn for any young reader. But the part that we like best, is that you can wag Molly's tail. At the top of the books binding is a little red tail that wags. Within the book they tell the reader to wag her tail. For example "Molly likes to be friendly. Wag her tail to say hello."

This book has been an excellent addition to our book collection. I hope that this review was helpful to you. We would highly recommend this book for any young reader.

Love This Book!
My daughter loves the whole Waggy Tales series - it's so much fun to see the wiggly eyes and waggy tails! We highly recommend them!

Eminent Dogs Dangerous Men (Curley Large Print Books)
Published in Hardcover by John Curley & Assoc (February, 1992)
Author: Donald McCaig
Average review score:

Wonderfully enjoyable and marvelously insightful!
A Border Collie owner, I could hardly wait to read this book, and the author's other books, Nop's Trials and Nop's Hope. A one-time visitor to Scotland who can't wait to go back, I eagerly looked forward to this book. And, I was not in the least bit disappointed on either count! The author's style is easy-going and readable, with a subtle humor throughout. His images are brilliant and I just felt like I was present for each scene that he wrote and a part of the action. Someone who has no interest in the working Border Collie might find the book dull. So also might someone who is not particularly interested in the very different lifestyle of the shepherd of Scotland. But for us who love the working Border Collie and find the life of the Scottish shepherd and his/her dog intriguing, this is an absolutely must-read book, over and over again!

Excellent read
This is a wonderful book any dog lover will thoroughly enjoy

It's a Keeper
When I first read Eminent Dogs, Dangerous Men a few years ago, I had a delightful surprise in the middle. There was a grand photo of Viv Billingham and her remarkable dogs, including her hard-working Holly. While on a walking tour of Scotland, prior to reading this book, we had a most memorable demonstration of sheepherding at Viv's Tweed Hope. McCaig's book captures the intensity, devotion, and the "other worldliness" of shepherding and Scottish competitiveness of which we saw only a momentary frament. Unfortunately, I loaned this book to a Border Collie owner, who moved away and never returned the book. My mistake, because this book is a keeper.

The Ultimate Border Collie
Published in Hardcover by Howell Book House (May, 1998)
Author: Allison Hornsby
Average review score:

Great book on Border Collies, written by a true expert
This author has done an excellent job describing the Border Collie. Whether it's behavior, motivations, breed history, stregths, weaknesses, she demonstrates that she is truly an expert. This is not a generic dog book with Border Collie pictures pasted in, it is an excellent reference that I intend to use for many years to come. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has or is considering purchasing a Border Collie.

Wonderful book!
Thank goodness for the wise writing and lovely pictures in this book. She does her best to dispell the myth of the 'genius'dog and the other myth of the 'border collies are black and white and stick thin small dogs'.

As an owner of a mostly white border collie, who is sometimes dismayed by people's comments about 'well she must have (insert breed) in her to be white', it is heartening to see pictures of every possible shade and shape of border collie. Border collies are very diverse - that's because the emphasis is (until recently, some may say) on a working dog, not a certain 'look'. It's their quirky minds that make them so different. A few hours with an obsessive fly chaser and you'll understand :-)

She has great sections on puppies, activities for your BC and lots of history and opinion. Some of the information may rub people the wrong way - bc people tend to be opinionated!

Absolutely worth reading
As a soon-to-be Border Collie owner, this book has proven to be very helpful. Its chapter on puppies and puppy care from the day you bring it to your home is very good. Living in Denmark, you cannot find many books about the Border Collie so I was very pleased to find this one. I am picking up my little puppy in less than 3 weeks and after reading this book, I feel confident that we have made the right choice regarding dog breed and the breeder. I can especially recommend this book if it's the first time you're getting a dog.
