The Sponsorship Seeker's Toolkit
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Trade (April, 1903)
Authors: Anne-Marie Grey and Kim Skildum-Reid
Average review score:

Fantastic resource
What most impresses me about this book is the relevant information provided right from the beginning. Within a matter of pages I found valuable tools to apply in my everyday activities, and that trend continued throughout. Now I keep the book at arms reach as a reference guide. If all sponsorship seekers were to embrace the principles outlined in the book, our efforts would become more successful, while instilling a higher level of professionalism in what we do.

WOW
I've read nearly a dozen books on the business of sponsorship, and this ranks near the top. It's full of useful information. The book helped me see some things in a new light. For beginning sponsor seekers, this book is worth it's weight in gold. I hope my competition doesn't get their hands on it.

A toolkit you must carry with you...
After reading this book I took a whole new approach to sponsorship and corporate giving. It walks beginners through the basics and explains why new strategic sponsorship is the best new tool for funding your work. At the same time, it has as much advanced material as any experienced professional would need. The examples and templates are invaluable. At a time when things are changing so rapidly, this book lays out a plan, and gives you the tools, to be successful in raising funds. It has been essential in my work.

Cat Tracks
Published in Hardcover by Delphi Books (31 January, 2002)
Author: Gordon Aalborg
Average review score:

For cat lovers from 9 to 99!
This book is a masterpiece that deserves more stars than Amazon allows. I read it in one sitting, and have read it several times since. The publishing world should be proud of carefully-crafted gems like Cat Tracks. I look forward to more novels from Aalborg.

This is (great) adult fiction!
Amazon states that this book is for children, ages 9-12. Not! Like Cat Fancy magazine, I would recommend Aalborg's CAT TRACKS for readers 12 and older. It's a marvelous book, and Aalborg certainly gets inside his cat-protagonist's head, but the mating ritual, the search for - and fininding of - food, and the inherent danger from owls and foxes, might be way above a 9 year old's head. An adult, however, would be truly caught up in the suspense of a feral cat striving to survive. I'll echo what Cat Fancy magazine said: If one person who was considering abandoning an animal reads this book and changes his or her mind, then Aalborg has achieved more than just a good work of fiction. Highly recommended!!! Especially for adults.

The best book about cats I have ever read!
I loved this book from start to finish. The author did a wonderful job making you feel like you were right there with the cat. I was so sorry when it ended. What a sad but beautiful story. Everyone needs to read of the plight of abandoned animals and thrie feral offspring.

Road Rules Journals
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (November, 1998)
Author: Alison Pollet
Average review score:

Awesome! You get to read their diaries!
This book rocks. The Road Rulers kept diaries on the road, and we get to see them! Plus they made cartoons and drawings and stuff. And, there's lots of dirt you'd never know just from watching the show! Totally cool.

I hate to read, but I finished this in just 2 Days! Great!
This book had tons of information. It really made you feel like you were there. It gives you how cast members really felt about what the other cast members were doing. It gives you the FULL story, not the part that Bunim/Murray wants you to hear. You actually find out the reason the cast members were arguing, not just the argument. I hate to read, but I finished this book in just two days. Better than Road Rules: Passport Abroad and In the House: Real World Seattle. If you only plan to get one book about The Real World or Road Rules, this is the one!

Information that even the most avid of fans never knew
As an almost-obsessive fan of both the Real World and Road Rules, this was definitely one of the better books. Even if you have watched every episode of the shows, like I have, you should get this book. It tells what really happened with the romances and fights; what cast members really thought of each other, and it even contains lost missions that were unable to make it onto the show. I would recommend this book to anyone who has seen the show. So order it today!

Whispers of Heaven (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (September, 2001)
Author: Candice E. Proctor
Average review score:

MAGNIFICENT LOVESTORY!!!!!!!!
Whispers of Heaven by Candice Proctor was an unforgettable read. It was an amazing lovestory that fills the reader with sadness, joy and a renewed belief in the power of love.

Tasmania, 1840

Irishman Lucas Gallagher, is a convict sentenced to a lifetime of hard labor working for the wealthy English. For years, he has suffered brutal whippings and intolerable conditions all the while dreaming of someday escaping. He is desperate to escape not wanting the degradation he has suffered to break him.

After years of schooling in England, Jesmond Corbett returns home to her family's estate. She is determined to be a dutiful daughter, hoping to please her very proper and disapproving mother. She strives to become the type of woman her betrothed and her mother want her to be. Yet, there is a restlessness within her that she can't ignore even after all of this time being away. She yearns to break free, to become the woman she wants to be not what society deems is proper.

Her life changes when she sees Lucas Gallagher. Convicts have always been a part of her life but there is something about this man that touches her with sadness. His image is seared into her mind forever: midnight black hair, handsome hard features that proclaim his Irish heritage and fierce eyes. Eyes that trouble her so . . . .

Society demands that there can never be any relationship between a wealthy young lady and a convict. Even knowing how her mother and fiance would react, Jesmond is drawn to Lucas as he is to her. Once he is assigned to become her groom, they are forced into greater intimacy. Jesmond discovers what kind of man Lucas really is and, in return, she feels wonderously alive in his presence. She doesn't have to pretend to be something she is not.

Both know that their love can have no future but they cannot deny the longing they have for each other. A longing that might destroy Lucas' last chance for freedom.

This is a MUST READ BOOK. Candice Proctor instilled within this book such depth and feeling. The characters were unforgettable. I laughed with Jesmond and Lucas, cried with them and felt such immense joy once their love prevailed.

One of the BEST historical romances I have ever read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

An original and reeshing omance
In 1840, after spending two years overseas studying geology, Jesmond Corbett returns home to Tasmania. Jesmond is determined to please her snobbish elitist mother Beatrice by marrying her fiance, wealthy aristocrat Harrington Tate.

Her brother Warwick salivates over the stallion she brought back for him, but quickly learns the hard way that Finnegan's Luck throws its rider. The government men work on the Corbett estate paying for their crimes to society. A government man, Lucas Gallagher catches Finnegan's Luck when the horse tries to escape. Warwick awards him by moving Lucas to the stables where he meets Jesmond a lot since she enjoys riding. Soon Lucas and Jesmond fall in love, but society would never accept a relationship between a convict and a lady.

WHISPERS OF HEAVEN provides readers with an interesting look at Australian society in 1840, which makes for a fresh story line due to the unique setting. At the same time that the plot provides an intriguing look into the past Down Under, the details lead to a slow moving tale. Still, the main characters, including the siblings, are fully developed and each one represents a segment of society. Candice Proctor is a talented author.

Another Masterpiece From Proctor
This book is another brilliant and haunting romance from Candice Proctor.

I'm an avid reader - from various genres, to literary fiction, to nonfiction. I can honestly say that I have rarely - outside of classic literature - encountered an author whose work stays with me the way Candice Proctor's does.

After I finished this book, I immediately went back and re-read key passages. The characters stayed in my mind and in my heart.

Much of Proctor's strength comes from the rich historical detail (she recreates a time and place so effectively that I almost feel as if I'm there). But even more important is her insight into the human condition. Her ability to explore the universal need for love and validation alongside of the brutalities of which man is capable makes her a real "thinking" person's romance author.

She's a master of the genre.

Full Circle
Published in Audio CD by Chivers Audio Books (May, 2000)
Author: Michael Palin
Average review score:

Arnold Rimmer
As always Palin has produced a great travel book and series... this I found better than his "80 Days". The other thing people might find interesting about this travel book is that it takes us to some places which are hard to reach even in this day and age, so this is the only way we can know them.

Also suggested- "Hemingway Adventure"

Magnificent
Full Circle is just as good, if not better then his othertravel/comedy books. It is simply magnificent.

An enlightning tour of the Pacific Rim countries.
Michael Palin does it again with Full Circle. Starting in Alaska Michael travels anti-clockwise around the rim of the Pacific Ocean visiting countries as diverse as Russia, Korea, Viet Nam, New Zealand, Colombia and the west coast of North American. He tells of his adventures getting to and exploring some fantastic natural wonders, visiting a Russian gulag with a former inmate, the relief of Japan, the Vietnamese reactions to a westerner, the biggness of Australia and the hardworking people of South America. The section on the United States is short and not always sweet. Palin is taken aback by the physical bigness of Americans, and rush, and loudness. By the time he reaches Canada and attends a "lumberjack" fair (no singing Mounties included!) he really "wants to go home". We also learn a bit about how the series and book were produced, his wife Helen and their children, and that being on a job for the BBC doesn't always mean smooth sailing! Michael's friend Basil Pao took the photographs - he also joined Michael on "Around the World in Eighty Days". I can highly recommend this book and not only to fans of Monty Python - it doesn't end how you might expect!

The Dreaming: A Novel of Australia
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Avon (August, 1992)
Author: Barbara Wood
Average review score:

Something is missing
Of course Barbara Wood is an excellent writer, at least for me, but in this book something was missing at the end of it, all the book was perfect, it keeps you reading, but when you finish, is just like that, you finished the book and you don't know what happened with the other people of the book, what happened with Judd? or Sarah? or Adam? or the last expedition to find her?
As in all of her books, with this one you will learn about Australia.

A good, strong romantic epic
This is a good, solid historical romance. I read another review that commented on this also being an anthropological novel, and I think that is also certainly true. The reader does become immersed in the myths, dream life, and very sad developments of the life of aborigines.

The characters are interesting and strong, and one of the real strengths of this for me was that the characters grow and develop and learn from their experiences. There are no present day villains here--just humans who learna s they go along, and I thought that was particularly nice.

There is a strong sense of the landscape and history of Australia here. Barbara Wood's plot also holds together well and comes to a strong resolution.

Generally, this was a very satisfying book. I am reminded of novels by M. M. Kaye, another novelist who blends history and fiction in marvelous ways.

Hooked on this author!!!
Adding to everyone else's comments all I can say is that I could not put this book down. I know I am going to read this book again in the future. I recently purchased the paperback at my local second hand bookstore without any recommendations. However, now I am going to recommend this author to everyone I know.

Moon Handbooks South Pacific (7th Ed.)
Published in Paperback by Moon Travel Handbooks (January, 2000)
Author: David Stanley
Average review score:

Moon Publications "South Pacific"
I used this book recently in my travels to the South Pacific. Although alot of the prices are outdated(which is difficult to keep up with as travel books are concerned , 4 stars insted of 5)it still makes an excellent REFERENCE. I recommend this travel book over the Lonely Planet version.

Take this book on your South Pacific adventure!
This is by far the best South Pacific guide. Stanley has an engaging writing voice and it is clear that he feels very passionate about this special part of the world. You get the feeling that this book was actually written by a person, instead of by a committee (Lonely Planet). This book succeeds in being appropriate for a wide audience--from backpackers to honeymooners to yachties to scuba divers. Although the prices and some of the businesses are out-of-date (the book was published in 2000), it is still a great read, even if only for arm chair travellers.

NOT to be missed
This book is your bible to the South Pacific. If you have special (return)feelings about the South Pacific like we have, you must read this book. If you buy this book after your trip you will find out that every spot you have travelled to is described the way YOU would do it. Buy it before you travel and the South Pacific Handbook will guide you for the best holiday you have ever made. Thank you David Stanley!

Excursion to Hell: Mount Longdon: A Universal Story of Battle
Published in Hardcover by Bloomsbury Pub Ltd (January, 1993)
Author: Vincent Bramley
Average review score:

unforgettable
This book had more impact on me than any other battle account I have ever read. It's an account of a vicious fight by soldiers who had the best training but no previous experience of the reality of war. Vince Bramley later wrote a follow-up, '2 Sides of Hell' based on the experience of some of his friends, and some Argentina soldiers who fought against them. I have seen translations of both books in shops in Buenos Aires. Vince Bramley is a guy I'd like to meet.
After reading these books, war fiction books are suddenly much less interesting.

5 stars
great read with a real look on what happend in the war

5 stars guaranteed

Longdon Relived
I served with the RAF in the Falklands between 1996-97. During a Sunday afternoon walk to Mt Longdon I met 2 men on electrical contract work for 4 months. One was Vince(nt Bramley) and the other Dom(inic Gray). Having briefly chatted with them they invited me to walk their battle the following Sunday. Wow! What a humbling experience. Only after the end of the walk did he tell me that he had written a (this) book. Reading it again 4 years on it still has the same impact. Vince is an honest and candid man. Having been there, you cannot underestimate the cold, the damp, the barren and harsh terrain, the unforgiving ground and unbelievably, how dark it can become with no light pollution.

The battle itself must have been horrific, let alone the TAB before hand, which in itself was a superhuman effort.

Well done Vince. You have written a frank account of something that (thankfully) most do not have to do. It is a fitting and lasting tribute to your colleagues.

Princess Hina and the Eel

A spectacular story of love.
Feelings of absolute splendor filled my heart while reading this tale. Captivating and thought provoking. I would highly recomend it to anyone, young or old. A story that will remain in your soul for a lifetime.

a beautiful book
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a beautiful story, beautifully told. I love the illustrations!

Gorgeous story! Touches the heart and engages the mind
Every child and every adult should read this book. It reminds us of what is important in life. A wonderful way to introduce children to symbolism, other cultures, their own cultural heritage, and so much more! I look forward to more works by Mr. Afuhaamango.

Tim: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (April, 1974)
Author: Colleen McCullough
Average review score:

If you liked Forrest Gump. READ THIS!
There are no words to describe this wonderful and moving novel. Yes, it maybe a bit outdated, but the charatcer of Tim has so much heart and goodness in him, that most readers will wish he was real so they could take him home.
Tim is a somewhat mentally handicapped 25 year old (think Forrest Gump). He lives with his mother, father and sister and basically just works and lives a simple life. He lives this simple life because that is what everybody thinks he is limited to. Until Mary comes along....
Mary is a 40 something spinster, who likes order and no confusion. She lives in her own simple life also till Tim enters it. At first it looks like an employee to employer and then mother to son, then friend to friend. It becomes so much more complicated as their feelings grow into something more. But many things are against them, the age difference, their lifestyles and most importantly, Tim's mental capacity.
Through Tim's outlook on life, Mary comes out of her shell and finally enjoys what is around her. She helps Tim feel important and learn so much more then he was ever able to understand.
This story becomes so much more than an enduring love between a man and a woman. We see two lost soul who equal each other in so many ways.
The only thing missing is a much longer book, or even a sequel to see how Mary and Tim have succeeded.
So beautiful and poignant!!

A repeat read
As a person who adores both Harry Potter and Salman Rushdie, this is one of my all-time favorite books. I have read this book at least 8 times in the past few years, and I have lent it to many a friend and loved one. The story is engrossing, the characters are complex and endearing, and McCullough's writing is magical. As a writer and an editor, this is a story I appreciate every time I read it.

Her finest work
Colleen McCulloch has written many books but I consider this, a very early work, to be her finest. It is a simple story of unconventional love, beautifully told. The characters are very strongly drawn, and it is easy to identify with the feelings of Mary Horton as she comes to grips with her love for a young man so totally unlike her. It is a topic which could so easily have led to a different and tasteless result - instead it is a truly lovely book.
