Blue Guide Australia
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (01 November, 1999)
Authors: Erika Esau and George A. Boeck
Average review score:

More than you might expect
More than "just" a travel guide, this book offers thought-provoking insights into Australian culture through essays that provide an insider's look at the territory for the visitor (or would-be visitor).

I found the section of colorful and quirky Australian dialect especially entertaining and illuminating.

I've never been to Australia but after reading this book I am more anxious to travel there. This book is a comprehensive and useful travel guide PLUS.

Bodyline Autopsy: The Full Story of the Most Sensational Test Cricket Series: England V Australia 1932-3
Published in Hardcover by Aurum Press (15 November, 2002)
Author: David Frith
Average review score:

Simply outstanding
A very balanced, authoritative and insightful analysis of a cricketing controversy that refuses to die. Each chapter is carefully researched and detailed, yet the book reads like an enthralling novel. At no point did I skip pages or become bored. Not only is this the story of the matches but also of the personalities, above all, Jardine, Larwood and Bradman. This is an excellent book, the best cricket book I've read to date on any subject about the sport.

Bony and the Kelly Gang (A Scribner Crime Classics)
Published in Paperback by Collier Books (September, 1988)
Author: Arthur W. Upfield
Average review score:

Caught in Irish rival gangfights, Bony becomes a matchmaker!
This is another Bony tale that gets better with each reading. And it has enough uprorious battling that it'd make a super movie. Somewhere in the south central hills, two Irish gangs are carrying on bootlegging operations. A govt agent gets murdered as he ventured to close, so Bony is called in. Patiently he learns more and more , bit by bit. As he gets nearer to identifying the villain, he also has to find a way to help the romance along between a gal of one 'gang' and a young man of the other, Along the way, Bony has to take on a mighty leader in a knockdown, bloody brawl - not just once, but twice. If you're ever thinking of going to Australia, this book will force you to go out into those hills and try to find remnants of these colorful settlers! This one is right up there for me with The Battlin' Prophet, The Bone is Pointed and Murder Must Wait. Hey: you don't have to be Irish to love this one"

The Boy in the Bush
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (September, 1990)
Authors: D. H. Lawrence, M. L. Skinner, and Paul Eggert
Average review score:

Minor Work
The Boy in the Bush is a minor work being a collaboration between Lawrence & Mollie Skinner. It is still a interesting read containing "Laurentian" ideas more fully worked out in his other novels.

Bunyips & Bigfoots: In Search of Australia's Mystery Animals
Published in Hardcover by Millennium Books (January, 1996)
Author: Malcolm Smith
Average review score:

Australian Cryptozoology
This is the most definitive resource on Australian Cryptozoology around. Its got around 30 pages per chapter, and each chapter just focuses on one animal. It's hard to find that much information on just one creature, anywhere else. It contains hundreds and hundreds of eyewitness accounts, as well as maps, photos, sketches, theories, and a sizeable bibliography. All information is presented in a speculative way, never outrightly saying that it definitely does or doesn't exist. The author is a member of the Cryptozoological society making all the information credible. A great book.

Butterflies of Australia: Their Identification, Biology and Distribution
Published in Hardcover by CSIRO Publishing (15 August, 2000)
Author: Michael F. Braby
Average review score:

Brief overview
The book contains excellent colour pictures of the Australian Butterflies, including BW plates under the species texts which are really useful. The text contains upto date information under the species accounts, but the general biology chapters remain similar to Common & waterhouse, with a few new inclusions, such as a section on photography. The book is esential for all with an interest in Australian Butterflies.
