Lonely Planet Sydney Condensed (Condensed Guides)

Indispensable!
I just returned from a whirlwind trip to Sydney -- only one week, and I wouldn't have seen half the things I did without this guide! It's small and portable, with a nearly indestructible cover. More importantly, it hits the highlights with some detail and gives little interesting things to see and do, not just the standard touristy stuff. Great maps and helpful phone numbers and even business hours for some places...I will definitely get a similar guide for future trips.

The Ultimate Guide to Tasmania
Having just got back from Tasmania with this book in tow I can highly recommend it to everyone, from locals, all Australians and the overseas visitor. This book has not only the history of this State but everything thant you could want to know about the flora and fauna, where to stay including the very basic accomodation through to the most luxurious, there are in depth maps, where to do the best shopping for your souveniers, where to eat whether it be fish and chips, vegetarian or a steak. This book was my bible and did not let me down once. We even found some short cuts with some lovely hidden treasures of nature displayed for us just by following the maps. The good thing was that the book does not only give information for the big towns but also many of the smaller ones hidden away,by visiting some of the smaller places It made my holiday that bit more personal and memorable. Read the book and you'll want to come and visit this wonderful isle.

The Only Guide Of Its Kind On Australian Wildlife
As a wildlife photographer I was very keen to find out where were the easiest places in Australia to see wildlife. This was the only book I have been able to find of this kind. The guide lists the best locations to see wildlife by state, often with very specific details. It also provides a brief description of some of Australia's most popular wildlife and what are the hotspots for viewing that particular species. This guide is not designed to give detailed information on wildlife behavior or physical makeup, it is designed to tell you where you can see wildlife and it does that brilliantly!!

A must have book!
Last summer, a friend and I went on a road trip in WA. We hadn't made any plans for accommadations when we got there and all we had was a 4X4 camper and our trusty Lonely Planet Guide! We were able to plan out our whole trip using this book as we went along. I suggest it to everyone going, even if you want to plan before. It also has a lot of historical and everyday information, that can complement a trip. TAKE THIS WITH YOU!

Luck's a fortune
Published in Unknown Binding by Wildcat Press ()
Author: David McNicoll
Average review score:

From D-Day to Robben Island
A terrific life story of one of Australia's greatest journalists and a record of Australian (and general) c. 20th history, as the author recounts his career as a WW2 correspondent, landing at Normandy and later traveling with Patton, then returning to Australia to work for the country's most powerful media organization. Later chapters include the scoop early 1970s interview with an imprisoned Mandela, and another scoop, a particularly candid 1974 interview with former Australian Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies.

Lucy's bay

Author: Gary Crew
Average review score:

Classic Crew
Gary Crew once again grabs at the emotions of the reader as a boy comes to terms with the death of his sister. Beautiful illustrations enhance the feel of the book and draw the reader into the scene. The contrast of the pictures with the text, one presenting a scene of tranquility and safeness, the other presenting the story of loss and pain make this a memorable read.

Lunch of Blood
Published in Unknown Binding by Random House ()
Author: Antonella Gambotto
Average review score:

A Really Great Read
"Lunch of Blood" is a powerful collection of profiles by Antonella Gambotto, one of Australia's most controversial and uncompromising interviewers. She is penetrating in her observations, ruthless in her descriptions, and not afraid to have opinions. We may never meet the people laid bare by these profiles - but there is writing here which will make the reader feel as unsettled as the subjects were ... In the words of the Australian Bookseller & Publisher: "The interviews hang together superbly as a collection, largely because Gambotto has the astonishing ability to reveal the absolute essence of a person."

Subjects include Martin Amis, James Blundell, Bondage & Discipline Mistresses, Edward de Bono, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Nick Cave, Gerard Depardieu, Alex Dimitriades, Gosia Dobrowolska, Ben Elton, Andrew Ettingshausen, Lisbeth Gorr, Rachel Hunter, Sean Kelly, Maria Kozic, Sophie Lee, Elle Macpherson, Male Prostitutes, Paul Mercurio, Morrissey, Thierry Mugler, Richard Neville, Marc Newson, John Pilger, Gretel Pinniger, Siimon Reynolds, Richard Stubbs, Noah Taylor, Naomi Wolf, and Aden Young.

"Unflinchingly reported ... notorious." The Sydney Weekly.
