First-time MAD traveler must!

The best introduction to early NZ historyNot everyone will agree with all of his interpretations, but they are always challenging and well argued as well as being a genuinely good read.

Good analysis of the issues

all over the mapTurnbull begins with a quote, "...all theory may be regarded as a kind of map extended over space and time." (Michael Polanyi) How tempting to describe difficult concepts as "like a map." By page two we're dealing with Borges, and a page later Lewis Carroll. Maps are more complex than we ever imagined.

A Truly Refreshing Guide!

Melanie and the Night Animal - a narrative of excellenceThis book may not have the intricate plot of Ms Rubinstein's other novels, Space Demons, Skymaze, Foxspell, et al, but it certainly has a style which introduces the younger reader to a novella of depth. The story is set in Sth Australia, but what does that matter? The thoughts and feelings of the characters are universal.
This is an excellent book for literature studies in the classroom as it contains elements of fine narrative writing - highly valued in Australian, New Zealand and English classrooms.
